Heartland is the entity of ACCG that applies for tax credits offered through the U.S. Treasury Department’s New Markets Tax Credit Program. The tax credits are designed to encourage private investment in distressed areas by giving investors a 39 percent break on their taxes over a seven-year period, said Leslie Lane, the senior vice president of the ACCG.
