Notes From the 2013 Governor’s Cup: More UA Grad Dominance, But Competition Stiff

University of Arkansas business-plan teams continued their run of graduate-level domination at the 2013 Donald W. Reynolds Governor’s Cup Wednesday, sweeping the top three places. Picasolar took first followed by HomeDx and EverClean Coating Solutions. On the undergraduate level, though, top bill in the state’s collegiate business-plan realm is up for grabs. University of Arkansas startup Picasolar and Catch-22 from the University of Arkansas at Little Rock took home the top overall prizes Wednesday at the 2013 Donald W. Reynolds Governor’s Cup. Picasolar won first prize in the graduate division of the state’s top collegiate business-plan competition, while Catch-22 took top honors in the undergraduate division before Gov. Mike Beebe and about 1,000 in attendance at the Statehouse Convention Center. Teams from the UA swept the top three places on the graduate level, with HomeDx placing second and EverClean Coating Solutions third. UA teams swept the graduate division in 2012 as well. EScout from Ouachita Baptist University won second in the undergraduate division, and Innovative Medical Sensor Tech of Harding University was third. [Read more…]

2013 Donald W. Reynolds Governor’s Winners Announced

Winners of the 2013 Donald W. Reynolds Governor’s Cup Collegiate Business Plan Competition that is managed by The Arkansas Economic Acceleration Foundation, an affiliate of The Arkansas Capital Corporation Group, were announced today at a luncheon hosted at the Statehouse Convention Center in Little Rock, Ark. John Rutledge, president and chief executive officer of the Little Rock market for First Security Bank, served as the master of ceremonies for the event, which hosted approximately 800 business leaders, students, educators and supporters from across the state for the 13th annual Donald W. Reynolds Governor’s Cup. This year, 47 teams submitted business plans from 13 colleges and universities from across Arkansas for a chance to win a share of the $154,000 prize pool. First and second place winners of the undergraduate and graduate teams will compete against the top two teams from Nevada and Oklahoma for the Donald W. Governor’s Cup Finalists Making Their Cases; Winners Announced April 10

The road to Little Rock goes through Fayetteville today and Friday for collegiate business-plan teams aiming to take home the Donald W. Reynolds Governor’s Cup. Semifinalists and finalists are at the Chancellor Hotel — as we speak — making their cases before a panel of judges. Winners will be announced at the big awards banquet shindig April 10 (next Wednesday) at the Statehouse Convention Center in downtown Little Rock. Business-plan teams from Arkansas colleges and universities have competed all over the world in prestigious competitions in recent years, and fared well. Teams mentored by Carol Reeves from the University of Arkansas have fared so well that Arkansas has become a prominent player on the business-plan scene. Youth Business Plan Competition Winners Announced

Arkansas Economic Acceleration Foundation (AEAF), an affiliate of The Arkansas Capital Corporation Group, today announced the winners of the Youth Entrepreneur Showcase 2.0 (Y.E.S 2.0) statewide youth business plan competition for grades ninth through twelfth. Today’s winners were chosen in the categories of Best Business Plan and Most Innovative. The competition included 55 teams made up of more than 100 students across Arkansas. Y.E.S. 2.0 students from across the state work in small groups, led by their teacher advisors, to develop and market a business concept. As Governor’s Cup Approaches, Business Plan Teams Gearing Up

Like long-awaited spring, the annual Donald W. Reynolds Governor’s Cup business-plan competition approaches, and student entrepreneurs from across the state are honing their pitches. The DWR Governor’s Cup is the state’s premier business-plan competition, and similar events are held in Oklahoma and Nevada. The three states made up the home territory for the old Donrey media empire. The winners from the Governor’s Cup contests in each state meet in May for the Tri-State Governor’s Cup in Las Vegas.
